Blog 8: Chicago Reflection and Video

I really enjoyed the trip to Chicago. Our sequence was lucky to have the opportunity to take a trip to Chicago as many sequences do not have dedicated trips outside of the classroom. It was interesting to apply the content we learned in class to what the museum showcased. The place where we ate lunch at was delicious and I would definitely like to go back someday. My favorite museum was the Mexican art museum because they had more on display and they were much more parallels to what we learned in class. For example, La Catrina was discussed in class and also by the tour guide. I was able to see some of the indigenous art that we analyzed on display at the Mexican art museum. By far, my favorite piece of art was the large mural at the end of the Mexican art museum tour because there were so many elements in it. I could stare at it for hours and still find new details which I thought was pretty cool. Also, it was so beautiful and symbolic that all the different elements overlapped over the heart of the map.

I took video with my 360 cameras throughout the trip. I had to stitch all the images and videos together and then edit them into one. I used Final Cut Pro on my MacBook Pro and created my own background music in Logic Pro. The 360 effect views better on phones as it uses the gyroscope and allows for more natural movement. Enjoy for those who missed

  1. AJ,

Very nice video! Making videos is a talent that you have for sure, and I hope everyone who wasn’t able to go on the trip is able to watch it. I agree with you that it was cool to see the connections to what we have learned in class, in the art that we were able to see in the museums. I appreciated our guided tour of the Mexican Art Museum because it helped you have more knowledge on a piece and allow you to make more connections with things you learned. I also really liked the last piece of art. It was fascinating how large and detailed it was and reminded me of an eye-spy as it had things hidden and was so intricate. I also really liked the piece that was made of all the beads. I can not imagine how long doing just one of the squares must have taken. It was fun to eat in the downtown area and walk the streets and go to the bakery.

  2. Nice post and video AJ! I too enjoyed the trip to Chicago. I was also really fascinated with how many connections we were able to make with the artwork at the museums. Although, I am not one that usually is able to understand art, being able to relate things that we learned in this class with the artwork made it a whole lot easier to understand it. Understanding the history and story behind the artwork also made it much more beautiful! I also favored the Mexican art museum too! However, I liked a few artworks, so I cannot say I had a favorite. Some of my favorite art pieces were from the Cuban art museum too. I enjoyed reading your post this week and watching your video!
